How to Build on Your Writing Passions

How to Build on Your Writing Passions

We all have known people who seem to be a perfect fit for their writing careers.? Not only are they successful, but they enjoy what they’re doing with a passion.? We’ve also known people who are successful but hate what they’re doing with a passion.? What’s the difference?? Which category matches you?

When your prime motivation is the bottom line, it might not make any difference to you as long as you’re making money.? If you are providing a suitable lifestyle for yourself, your motivation is to be happy where you are at with work and life. But, if you long for something you can love and do with a passion, then it may be a little more complicated.

True, some people find their lifelong passion with very few or no problems at all.? Maybe they grew up around the family business and never cared to learn anything else. They found contentment staying close to the family.? However, this is not the norm.? Most of us seek to fly out of the comfortable nest and fly over the fence to see if the grass is greener.

Anytime is a good time to discover your passions and act on them but first, determine what makes you passionate.? When you understand your desires (and this is not an easy matter), a whole new set of possibilities becomes available.

Evaluate where you are now and what brought you there.? Perhaps, you’re a writer but long to be a travel writer (select the writing you want to do).? If you’re writing but not happy each day and dread going to work, then the bottom line is not your motivating factor.? You may need to select another area to work where you can write about the topics you like.

Look at your passions from all angles.? In travel writing, is it the travel you love, or is it exploring new lands and meeting new people.

What do you want to write about your journey?

Maybe you enjoy making travel plans and scheduling cruises and flights, which could lead to a travel or tour business.? Writing about those tours could be a great way to fulfill that dream of being a travel writer. It’s vital to search for your passions from different directions.

Do you think your passions are just the admiration of other travel writers? Have you found any other travel writers who do what you think you would like to do?

Try not to confuse your passion with admiration or any other trait you find appealing.? Be prepared for the realization that if you are doing what you love, it may need to be changed so you will be able to put bread on the table.

You can bet people working at whatever they’re passionate about spent long hours getting where they are if they are successful.? If it’s genuinely your passion (in your type of writing), getting there will be a joy.? Explore your desires,? and take these passions to the next step.

Learn all you can about your passion or craft.? Take a class or a course to be better at the type of writing you want to do.? See where the path leads.? It could lead you right back to where you were in the first place, but you owe it to yourself to find out. Enjoy the journey.
